The Unwritten Chapter

The day has finally arrived - I know for sure by my sweaty palms, nervous smile, and butterflies in my stomach. In the carpool lane watching cars out of the window at a complete stop as they sit in rush hour, I realize this is the last time I will see this for a while.

Arriving at LAX, I'm taking deep breaths, just trying to soak it all in - I won't see this airport for another four months. I hug my father, tell him I love him, grab my luggage and embark on this incredibly long journey with my good friend, Nicole.

Rewinding for a minute, there are very few people that know, but we have been planning this adventure since January 2016. Many things had to happen in order to accomplish this goal. One of the most important hurdles for me was quitting my job and giving up my security.

As I traveled to The Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and explored my home state of California this past year while on limited vacation days, I found that it was almost impossible for me to explore and create under those restrictive circumstances.Letting go of my role in accomplishing another person's dream to put billions of dollars into their own pocket while letting my creativity die in a cubicle, in order to grow and evolve as a person and an artist.

My frustration grew to a breaking point, leading me to leave corporate America in November 2016. I knew Nicole was a free spirit and that together we would be able to take the most important journey of all - a journey into who we truly are. After months of talking about leaving I let Nicole know it was time for us to finally set ourselves free - book our flights, save up, and go create the jobs we want for the rest of our lives.

One of the most wonderful things about being young is the sense that we still have our entire lives to build. The whole world is in front of us, waiting to be explored. Although traditionally, people are expected to have their lives and future planned out before leaving high school, in reality, we try out many paths before we can even begin to make those decisions. Every choice we make in life may close off possibilities, but choices can also open up opportunities.

No matter what age we are, we can always look forward and imagine new paths that we might take. No matter how old I am, there are always opportunities, always new things I can do. I hope you enjoy this journey with me. Let it inspire you to take your own.
